Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash Extensions

Simply put — they are the best! Single-strand eyelash extensions are the most natural of all lash extensions. They stay on the longest and with the proper care, they are non-damaging to your natural lash. A definite ‘must have’ for the busy woman trying to juggle an often hectic lifestyle.

Single-strand eyelash extensions are popular with brides, new mommies, vacationers and more recently, the business woman. The entertainment industry also loves our lashes as they make eyes ‘pop’ on film and camera. Others may simply want a fresh look or to make a special impression. Whatever the occasion or reason may be, you will be amazed with the results.

You will be asked to lie down on our facial bed, where our certified eyelash technician will clean and carefully apply medical grade tape to your upper and lower eye area. At your request, we will apply cooling collagen gel pads to your lower eye area for added comfort. Once taped, our certified eyelash technician will ‘go to work’ meticulously applying our single-strand eyelash extensions to your natural lashes. Most clients fall asleep to our soothing music and gentle touch.

When applied by our certified eyelash technician, your lash extensions will feel no different than your own lashes. Each synthetic lash mimics the natural lash—being thicker at the base and slightly curled at the tip. They are extremely lightweight and natural that you’ll start believing that the lash extensions are naturally yours.

We ask that you come to Beauty Secrets by Virginia with no eye makeup. If you wear contact lenses, kindly remove them prior to your appointment.

Rest assured your natural lashes will not be damaged. Our extensions are applied meticulously by our certified eyelash technician. Each lash extension is adhered to one single natural lash, which will grow out naturally as your own lash matures. With our intensive training and expertise, we have the skills and confidence in our application and products. Many clients claim that their lashes become healthier after having single-strand eyelash extensions put on. This may be due to the fact that you’ll no longer need mascara or be required to curl your lashes.

In some cases, eyelash extensions can last up to 6-8 weeks. However, it is common to get a touch up after about 2-4 weeks. Like all hair, there are 3 phases to the eyelash growth cycle:

~ Anagen – the ‘active growth phase’. Only 40% of the upper eyelashes are in active growth at any one time. This phase lasts for 30-45 days.
~ Catagen – the ‘transition phase’ when the eyelash stops growing and the follicle shrinks. This lasts 2-3 weeks.
~ Telogen – this is the ‘resting phase’ and can last over 100 days before the eyelashes fall out.

There are some lashes in each phase at all times, therefore, some will be lost within a couple of weeks as part of the natural cycle.

Your lashes will need minimal care and you’ll find that they’ll easily adapt to your own lifestyle. They are resistant to water, perspiration and tears. You can swim, shower and participate in sports. We do however, recommend that you not wear mascara, rub, pull, curl, or go into a sauna while wearing them. You’ll also need to avoid oil-based products as they can cause the adhesive to weaken.

If you try to remove your extensions without the proper adhesive remover, you will likely pull out your own natural lashes. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you have them removed by our certified eyelash technician. We’ll ensure that upon removal, your natural lashes won’t be damaged.

We offer  LashFX Cils d’Or, Novalash & Xtreme Lashes FlexFusion Adhesive (clear) and Xtreme Lashes Signature HP-Ultra Adhesive (black).  As well as LashFX Cils d’Or All adhesives.  These adhesives are excellent for those with sensitive eyes.  Both adhesives provide a seamless bond which contributes to the subtlety of having extensions that look natural. It dries very soft on the lashes which keeps them flexible and bouncy.

We recommend booking 2 to 3 days prior to your special event to ensure that the lashes have been set and are looking fresh for your special day. If you have sensitive eyes or would like a trial application, you could book in for a new set 2 weeks prior to the event with another touch-up appointment 2 days before.

Day-to-Day Care of Eyelash Extensions
It is important that the eye area and lashes are kept very clean particularly if you are wearing eyelash extensions, failure to do so can result in irritation and possible infection. If you experience any eye irritation please contact your Eyelash Extension Technician. Remember don’t be afraid to touch or cleanse them.

Remove eye makeup carefully from the eye area using oil free makeup remover (I highly recommend Mary Kay Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover ask your Mary Kay consultant for details) and a sponge tip applicator
Avoid any oil based products near your lashes as these will weaken the bond of the adhesive.
Clean your lashes daily using our recommended lash shampoo (see below for recipe)
Apply foaming lash shampoo mix to lashes; let the cleanser do the work by using gently upward strokes on the lashes
Rinse well with tepid water
Carefully squeegee off excess water using fingertips (this should also be done following swimming)
Groom your lashes with your mascara wand – support the underneath of lashes while combing through
Groom your lashes every day, especially in the morning; this will help to keep them looking beautiful at all times.
Treat your lashes gently – no rubbing, pulling, picking or tugging.
Do not use waterproof mascara or perm/tint your lash extensions.
Use saline or Ocufresh to extend the life of your lash extensions.

TEN reasons why you SHOULD add Baking Soda to your Lash Shampoo

Pure & Simple – Baking Soda makes it BETTER!
Yep, another “Top TEN countdown!” (Or at least 10 important bullet points that make me “PRO-Baking Soda”! There are actually MANY more reasons!)
Thank you, David Letterman, for keeping the ‘countdown’ alive and well! Thank you Jill from LAshfx for sharing this information! ONLY the best use LAShFx!
So, really…
Why Baking Soda?

There are lots of good reasons to keep this super powder in your Lash Shampoo recipe. Here are 10 compelling reasons:
10) Baking Soda reacts with and tempers acidic qualities (an acetic gas is emitted when cyanoacrylate adhesive meets hydrogen and cures – this makes the first and all other washing “sting free”)
09) When mixed with crude liquids, it produces a clearer sample (i.e. the tap water we wash our faces with! It neutralizes the chlorine and other impurities!
08) Baking Soda raises the PH balance (increasing alkalinity – think of it this way acetic=burning, alkaline=soothing)
07) It has mild antiseptic properties and soothes irritation
06) Baking Soda is often used to relieve itching & burning symptoms of allergic reactions
05) It is often used as a mild substitute for hydrocortisone cream, which should NOT be used near the eyes unless specifically directed by a physician
04) Baking Soda neutralizes fungal growth (ew – I know, but it can happen!)
03) Baking Soda can be safely used as a facial cleanser and is often used as a clarifying shampoo, gently and effectively removing dirt and oil
02) Baking Soda + Baby Shampoo is a natural remedy/recommended wash for cradle cap – a crusting of the scalp (we often see crusties at the root of the eyelash hairs. Not being doctors, we cannot accurately diagnose blepharitis and other conditions such as ocular rosacea, but guess what!? Washing with Baby Shampoo + Baking Soda is often the recommended care/treatment protocol!)
01) Baking Soda increases the cleansing capabilities of soaps & detergents without resorting to harsh chemicals such as bleach, etc. (Before excellent oxygenator products like OxyClean, baking soda was added to the wash load to boost cleaning power!)
Here’s the recommended Lash Shampoo recipe that I have endorsed for years with great success:
In a foam pumper, mix
1 part baby shampoo
3 parts bottled or purified (NOT TAP) water
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Why use a foam pumper?
The super sudsy foam gets between the lashes with very little effort, bathing the lash line in the cleaning & soothing ingredients.
Lots of air and lots of water ensure great cleaning power and easy rinsing – we do not want any soapy residue left coating the lashes.

 Why not TAP WATER?
You may wash and rinse with tap water, but you do NOT want tap water in the Lash Shampoo mixture. Think about it – we touch the tap and faucets with dirty hands. We do NOT want that bacteria INSIDE the shampoo mixture to breed more bacteria. Any mixture that includes water is a veritable breeding ground for bacteria – in essence, a petrie dish! I always used Nursery Water – it’s purified enough for babies! A previously unopened bottle of drinking water is also a safe choice.
Wash daily with the lash Shampoo. Use a fluffy handful (no less than the size of a golf ball) to cleanse the lashes; eyes closed; using upward strokes and gentle gestures over the eyelid. No “see-saw” scrubbing back and forth – just upward strokes from root to tip. Rinse thoroughly. Do not towel dry the lashes, but blow them dry.
